The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development commemorated World Habitat Day and World Cities Day on Thursday, 31st October 2024. The themes for the occasion were “Engaging Youth to Create a Better Urban Future” and “Youth Leading Climate and Local Action for Cities.”

In a goodwill message, Sam Odia, CEO of the Millard Fuller Foundation, highlighted the organization’s dedication to delivering truly affordable homes to Nigerians. He emphasized that the Foundation consistently engages youth and supports sustainable urban development, aligning with the day’s themes.

Odia noted that the Foundation has involved young people in its mission to provide affordable housing for low-income earners across Nigeria. The most recent example was the National Day Build, where three low-income families received new homes.

This project, funded by the Foundation’s partners, not only demonstrated the Foundation’s commitment to improving living conditions but also empowered the next generation of leaders. Two young architects, Chioma and Evans, who are completing their National Youth Service (NYSC) with the Foundation, played a vital role in this project.

These Youth Corpers contributed immensely to the success of the initiative through hands-on experience, showcasing the Foundation’s belief in nurturing youth talent to address urban challenges.

Through such initiatives, the Millard Fuller Foundation provides affordable, sustainable green homes while cultivating a new generation of professionals equipped to tackle issues of urbanization and climate change. Chioma and Evans’ involvement highlights the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to engaging youth in creating a better urban future for low-income households in Nigeria.
